You can still enter the Food of Hungary 2021 cooking competition.

Until the 12th of March, you can enter the Hungarian Food 2021 cooking competition, for which teams from all over the world, the territory of historical Hungary and the diaspora are also welcome to apply.

The Diet Association of Hungarian Chefs (Étrend Magyar Konyhafőnökök Egyesülete) in cooperation with the Lajos Letenyey Grammar School, Vocational Gymnasium and High School (Letenyey Lajos Gimnázium, Szakgimnázium és Szakközépiskola) in Felcsút and the professional partnership of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nemzeti Élelmiszerlánc-biztonsági Hivatal - Nébih) announces for the fourth time the live-labour, hot kitchen, cooking competition called the Hungarian Food – can be read in the communication.

Each course entered for the competition may consist of a maximum of five elements and must contain three raw materials: game, Naszálytej-Fittej type buttermilk, and any product that has the trademark of the Traditions, Tastes, Regions (Hagyományok, Ízek, Régiók - HÍR). The latter could be replaced by any agricultural product or food protected by an EU designation of origin and geographical indication. – can be read in the communication.

In the two-round competition, the courses will be judged by a professional jury.

The communication quotes István Asztalos, chairman of the Diet Association of Hungarian Chefs (Étrend Magyar Konyhafőnökök Egyesülete), who said that they are looking for tradition, modernity and archness this year again in the entered dishes.

The cooking competition will take place in the Lajos Letenyey Vocational High School and Vocational School in Felcsút. According to the announcement, Kálmán Kocsonya, the deputy professional director of the institution, spoke about the fact that the school will join the final of the Hungarian Food competition as a host for the second time in the 2020/2021 school year.

He emphasized that, in partnership with the Diet Association of Hungarian Chefs (Étrend Magyar Konyhafőnökök Egyesülete), the gastronomic student competition will be held for the first time that is accompanying the final on the 5th of June this year, for which they expect entries from catering schools. The competition task for the students will be: a 5-course Hungarian menu, served for 1 person. The menu can be consist of cold appetizer, soup, hot appetizer (can be combined with cold elements), main course, dessert.

The menu should be presented cold in modern serving, according to international trends. The menu can only be made of Hungarian ingredients. The dishes can be classic Hungarian gastronomy masterpieces and/or regional Hungarian dishes - added Kálmán Kocsonya.

Károly Varga, the chairman of the jury and the chef of the "48 Étterem" in Kecskemét, in the announcement drew attention to the fact that last year they already had applicants from five countries for the competition.
