PÉTER SZIJJÁRTÓ: ECONOMIC COOPERATION HAS PUT A LOT TO THE HUNGARIAN-ROMANIAN RELATIONS

The Hungarian-Romanian economic cooperation has strengthened with a series of joint success stories the relationship between the two countries – announced the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budapest on Friday after receiving the Romanian Minister of Economy, Enterprise and Tourism in his office.

According to Péter Szijjártó, the relationship between the two states is determined by their close interdependence. This is reflected in the fact that Romania is the 4th most important export market for Hungary, and for Hungarian capital, it is the 6th most important destination country. Last year the value of trade turnover reached 8 billion euros – he added.

Among the Hungarian company results, the Minister emphasized that MOL could build another 14 petrol stations and 40 electric car charging stations along the Romanian motorways, and OTP in Romania announced a capital increase of € 50 million and has already opened its 97th branch. MVM has started to offer residential services in the neighboring country, and Richter is developing its plant with Hungarian government support in Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureş). Hungarian companies won HUF 22 billion of support for investments of HUF 45 billion in Romania, he emphasized.

The agreement was signed at the press conference about the construction of the Mátészalka-Szatmárnémeti highway, which will be the 3rd highway connection between the two countries. The new section will be opened in 2024. Péter Szijjártó announced that out of the 10 border crossing points that operate periodically, Elek and Dombegyháza will provide permanent crossings in the future. In this year, a tender will be issued for the construction of the second track for the last Hungarian section of the Budapest-Bucharest railway line. The tender that will allow the extracted gas from the Black Sea to be delivered to Hungary has also been closed, said the head of the ministry. The memorandum was also signed at the event that was formulated by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry about the establishment of the Romanian-Hungarian Joint Chamber.

According to Claudiu-Iulius-Gavril Năsuit, the agreements reached on Friday will ensure the expansion of economic relations, that has opportunities for both parties to take advantage of. The Romanian Minister welcomed the Hungarian investments and added that the investments of Romanian companies in Hungary are also facing a significant expansion.
